The Most Recommended Sushi Restaurants of Barcelona
The best sushi restaurants in Barcelona
This article is about the wide variety of sushi restaurants in Barcelona. From the very affordable, to the all-you-can-eat buffets and the reasonable mid-priced sushi, all the way to the most exquisite and high quality where you can only eat a la carte. This post will constantly be updated as the whole SuiteLife Team is in love with sushi and always on the hunt for the best sushi restaurants in Barcelona.
ALL YOU CAN EAT & GROUP SUSHI
The all-you-can-eat buffets are quite common sushi restaurants in Barcelona. For the price of 8 € for a Lunch and 13 € for the dinner menu you can really stuff yourself. You will read about the experiences our writers had, meaning that there will be regular updates on this website. One of many sushi restaurants is Kirin, a well priced (9 € midday, 13 € at night) restaurant that delivers good value. Enjoy the all-you-can-eat buffet with the revolving dishes that pass by your table as well as the option to have your seafood grilled. It is not a traditional Japanese Sushi bar or restaurant but it has a perfect price quality ratio and a friendly staff. It can be found at C/ Arragó 231 and at Ronda Universitat 20 and is highly recommended, especially for groups.
One of our favourite new sushi restaurants in Barcelona is called Miu and is located on c/ Valéncia 249, right at the corner with Paseo de Gracia. Miu opened at the end of 2008 and is housed in a former underground parking garage. The docoration of the restaurant is beautiful and quite different from the usual overly-symbolic zen styles of most sushi restaurants in Barcelona. The price to value ratio here is very good. Many of the chefs are ex-Kibuka (another of our favourites mentioned below). The restaurant is also huge and accommodates large groups very well. We came here with a group of 18 for a university reunion and had a feast for about 20 € per person. The service is a bit slow at times (though friendly), but hey, in Barcelona, slow service is usually expected.
On Monday most of the sushi restaurants in Barcelona are closed. We managed to find Guo Kaitensushi at c/Valencia 212, which is a proper Japanese buffet with excellent service. The conveyor belt was full of food even though there were only a few tables left. We had arrived very late but they kept on filling the belt and even asked what we wanted and made it fresh. The cutlery was quality japanese style chopsticks as well as the sake that was served at the right temprature (38degrees C). The soya sauce and the wasabi were definitely of a higher quality compared to the other buffets and it all tasted wonderfull. Highly recommended as the price quality ratio is excellent with the supurb service in Japanese style, very friendly people.
Hanagin is run by Chinese people and one of the sushi restaurants in Barcelona that offers cheap midday menu’s at 8 €. It is situated at C/ Provenca 201. It is not the best sushi if your used to higher-priced japanese restaurants but for a four course meal at 8 € it is very good and includes a drink. Another great Japanese restaurant is Take Sushi with reasonably priced menu’s for 8 € lunch and 15 € dinner it has fast service and is situated at c/ Roselló 152. The sushi is home-made and has a noticable quality difference compared to Hanagin or Kirin.
One other best value restaurant is Mitsui. It serves an all you can eat buffet for 10 € lunch and 14 € dinner with a great selection of dishes you can have made fresh right in front of you. The dessert buffet has a lot of variaty. The restaurant is located at Carrer d’Aribau 122
Higher standard sushi restaurants in Barcelona are also very common. Wether the elevated prices support the quality of food is up for discussion. El Japones (Pasaje de la Concepción 2) is a perfect example. It is famous and has a fusion kitchen that offers a different menu at a higher price. The typical place where you pay for the decoration of the place instead of the high quality food one would expect with such a decor. The menu contains tradition al japanese sushi however not the best quality, what seemed better was the combination of the local seafood, for instance the noodles with gambas and has a nice finishing touch. In places like el Japonese you are paying more for the environment. The location is great for going out after with friends and the environment is chic and cosy for groups (Solo is the name of a wonderful & expensive bar/restaurant across the street). So while the food is pretty decent, sushi connoisseurs wont be all that impressed.
Another famous Japanese restaurant is ON. It has a modern decor that makes the experience of eating there something special. They serve a traditional Japanese menu with the soups and the nigiri’s and the maki’s and the salads with raw fish and other types of seafood. This famous and modern Sushi restaurant in Barcelona can be found on c/ Rosellón 154, reservations are advised. You can reach them at +34 934 511 847.
Cirkus experience is well known and has a different concept. It combines sushi with fashion because of the passion the owners have for Japanese food and designing clothes and accesories. The restaurant is located at c/ Avinyó 24 right in the Bario Gotico. What they serve is basically sushi and sashimi, but also hot dishes, which vary according to the season. The menu offers the opportunity of tasting Japanese cuisine recipes with tropical fruits. Standout dishes are the Cuerda Floja (smoked caramelized eel, Masago and avocado covered in salmon on Unagui sauce), the Cirkus Roll (prawn, salmon, cream cheese, mango and spicy sauce covered in Masago and sesame) and the Chirashi Sakana bowl, which is a bed of rice and a mixture of marinated fish on sesame oil, soy, Shitake mushroom, avocado, spring onions, Massago, clams, strawberries, pineapple and mango (one of the house specialties) to name but a few.
Without a doubt, Kibuka is SuiteLife’s most highly rated choice among sushi restaurants in Barcelona. The perfect combination of price to quality, ambience, and just tasty sushi! Two people can stuff themselves and have a couple Saporos (Japanese beer) for about 40 €. We suggest trying the “Hot Filidelfia”, the “Yaki Soba” noodles, and the “Spicy Tuna” rolls, but really, everything on the menu is to die for. Kibuka also offers a very cool service that we haven’t seen in any of the other sushi restaurants in Barcelona. For 45 € per person (minimum 8 people) they will send one of their chefs straight to your house! They stay at your place for 2 hours preparing a feast for you and your friends. Although we haven’t tried it yet, it’s a great idea if you’re planning on entertaining in your flat. Very innovative! There are two locations, both in Gracia. The first is c/ Goya 9 where you cannot get reservations. It’s packed every night of the week so if you’re not there by 21:30 (it opens at 21:00), don’t even bother going. The other location, on c/ Verdi 64, does have reservations, and two dinner shifts (21:30 & 23:00). For reservations call: 93 415 92 17. www.Kibuka.com
