Gracia was once a small village that became part of Barcelona after the “Eixample” (the extension) was build at the end of the 19th century. Gracia is situated directly above Eixample and as an originally tiny village it has a noticeablely different layout. The streets are narrow and short. There are a few longer streets such as Calle Verdi, which starts at the top of Placa de la Revolución and goes all the way up to Barcelona’s most famous parc: “Parc Guell designed by Antonio Gaudi”. The street is named after the world famous opera music composer from Italy: Guiseppe Verdi who lived from 1813-1901. Read more...

With the knowledge of our Sunday afternoon experience we decided to go early in the evening to probably one of the best sushi restaurants in Barcelona, Tempura-Ya. Read more...
Looking for a fish and marisco (seafood) restaurant in Barcelona?
We found a delicious and cheap seafood restaurant in Barcelona made for you: La Paradeta is the most unique Barcelona fish restaurant due to its reasonable prices, its seafood’s freshness and its informal “fish market” atmosphere.
Barcelona fish restaurant La Paradeta has been operating for 15 years. The first one of these alternative fish and marisco restaurant chains opened on Carrer Riego, 27 in Barcelona. It was not long before the owner, coming from South of Spain, opened 4 other marisco (seafood) restaurants in different locations in Barcelona, having established the popularity of his original concept.
Ideed, La Paradeta is based on a very simple idea: people like fresh food and a fish market atmosphere. So the first thing La Paradeta’s clients do is choose their fish and seafood directly from the market stall. I like to walk by just to see its explosion of colours enhanced by the pure white of the ice that surrounds all kinds of fish, lobsters, crabs, squids, shrimps, prawns and seashells. Read more...

I experienced that finding a cheap supermarket in Barcelona isn’t so easy, especially when you’re new to Barcelona and are still trying to check out where to find the next affordable supermarket in the Barcelona neighbourhood you’re living in. By affordable, I mean prices which students, interns or young professionals who’ve just moved to Barcelona and have a lot of expenses at the beginning, can easily afford.
But let me get this straight: Even though some supermarkets in Barcelona are more expensive than others, that doesn’t mean they differ from other supermarkets around the world. Well, obviously supermarkets in Barcelona have a somewhat different food range than supermarkets in Bangladesh. In general though, food prices in Barcelona are more expensive than food prices in eastern countries or Germany, but less expensive then in Great Britain or Scandinavian Countries.
The Catalan restaurant El Bulli near Barcelona (Girona) announced it is closing its doors to the public from 2012 until the beginning of 2014. El Bulli, which is known as the best restaurant in the world, will not be closed because of the retirement of its world famous chef Ferrán Adriá. Instead, Adriá has explained that this time ‘off’ will be used to analyze the restaurant’s accumulated know-how and to take their concepts in yet another mould-breaking direction in the coming years. The Bulli is a 3 Michelin star restaurant and is widely regarded for it’s cutting-edge techniques and tireless attention to innovation.
The concepts that they will work so hard on developing during this two year period will be finally announced to the public in 2014. The best chef in Barcelona, and probably at this moment the best chef in the world, sees this change as the next logical step in taking his high-tech and overly creative cuisine to the next level. OK. True Story.
A friend of my girlfriend’s, let’s call her ‘Montse’ for the sake of anonymity <and Cátalan stylings>, and her boyfriend ‘Jordi’, go to the famous El Bulli restaurant. For those of you who don’t know it’s Spain’s most famous restaurant. It boasts 3 Michelin Stars, an honour usually reserved only for the best restaurant in Paris . You have to make reservations about a year in advance and the restaurant is only open 7 months out of the year. It is quite special (read: quite expensive). The chef, Ferrán Adriá, is often hailed as the world’s best and the press has dubbed him the “Salvador Dalí of the kitchen”. What really drew them in is that they always had wanted to eat in the restaurant of the best chef in the world. That the chef happened to be Cátalan, through and through, made it all the better.
