Where to watch original language movies in Barcelona VO Cinemas

different movie scenesGoing to a VO cinema in Barcelona is always a nice thing to do and today more a social event instead of just catching up with the latest Hollywood blockbuster. VO stands for Version Original and indicates that the films are shown in the original language. VO Cinemas in Barcelona are also a great way to practice your Spanish skills, because almost every VO movie has Spanish subtitles. This way you can improve your Spanish vocabulary and enjoy a night out. In general a cinema ticket cost around 7 € but some cinemas offer special discounts (e.g. movies which are shown during the day or special student offers). If possible you should always check if the Barcelona VO Cinema offers tickets and/or reservations online. Queues can, especially during weekend evenings, be very long.

Barcelona ballroom dancing: Where to dance Tango in Barcelona Part 1/3

Whoever wants to dance Tango, or Salsa, or anything else in Barcelona has only too much to choose from! I am not talking about clubs or discos but about this particular, elegant and incredibly rich ballroom dancing culture that has been passed on for generations, and especially Tango, Salsa, Flamenco and all other Latin dances. If you want to unveil the real nature of Latin culture, you’ll have to look at it through the dance window as well.

As a big Latin dance fan, I went on the hunt for hidden ballroom dancing places in Barcelona especially for you! My first prey was Barcelona milongas, or hidden Barcelona Tango cafés. After some research on the Internet, I realized that Barcelona Tango was big! Not only has the City of Barcelona organized yearly Tango festivals since 2004, but there’s also at least one milonga going on in Barcelona every night, usually starting around 10pm and lasting until 1am, if not later. Entries to the enchanted Barcelona Tango world are quite cheap also, starting from €4.

Exhibition impressions of the Mobile World Congress 2010 in Barcelona

I’ve been in Barcelona for 5 years and have only ever seen the monstrosity that is the 3GSM mobile show from the street passing by.  This year I was lucky enough to get a badge to enter.

First of all, the show is HUGE, the biggest one I’ve ever been to for sure.  There are so many exhibit halls, each with thousands of people and booths.  You could probably spend a full day in each section.  On day one I walked around and visited some of the bigger companies to see what they were doing.  Samsung & Blackberry (Research in Motion) must have spent millions on their custom designed booths.  We also saw a very cool new product that lets you charge all your mobile devices without the hassle of chargers and tangled chords called PowerMat.

World looking at Barcelona: Mobile World Congress – The Mobile Networking Event of the Year

Plaza España Mobile World Congress

The question is not “who‘s exhibiting at WMC 2010 but who’s not? – The 2010 Mobile World Congress starts next week Monday the 15th -18 th of February, in Barcelona and provides 1,300 companies with the chance to present solutions for the mobile future. MWC Passes are outstandingly expensive (one pass ranging from € 599 to € 4,999) but it offers the opportunity to meet with approximately 50,000 key decision-makers.

When I arrived last Wednesday at Plaza España, to take the bus to my beach volleyball lesson at Inefc, (Institut nacional d’educació física de Catalunya ) 5 days before the actual staging, the exciting atmosphere of an international event was already noticeable. People were running around, setting things up, wanting to be ready in time for when the MWC opens its doors on Monday morning. Even when I arrived up at the Inefc building, cars were parked up the mountain and everything was choc-a-bloc. So being here in Barcelona, while the world watches the MWC is an exciting experience which I want to share with you. On Monday we will provide you with the first inside fair Impressions of 2010 – so stick with us.

The Best Jazz Clubs in Barcelona

Sharing my first cultural experience in a Jazz Bar in Barcelona, a cultural and exciting city with several Jazz Bars and Jazz clubs and restaurants. After having a tasteful Spanish dinner at a tapas bar in the centre of Barcelona we wanted to go to a Jazz Club to extend our evening of pleasure and cultural delight with a visit to one of Barcelona’s JAZZ CLUBS, but where to go? After having consulted our waiter for the evening, who happened to be a “golfo” (someone that goes out on a continuous basis) we were recommended to go to Jazzsí, a small cozy place at a stone’s throw from mercat sant antoni at calle Requesens 2, where different days different types of live music are preformed and our Wednesday evening happened to be the Jazz evening of Jazz club Jazzsí. We were told to go straight away because the place would be packed at 20:30.
