Sushi Restaurants Barcelona-New Update!

After one of our facebook fanpage friends recommended a sushi restaurant in Barcelona called Tempura-Ya, we went to have a look to see what it was like and have a bite to eat. We discovered that on a Sunday  afternoon it was  completely packed and thus decided to come back some other day. That other day was yesterday. With the knowledge of our Sunday afternoon experience we decided to go early in the evening to probably one of the best sushi restaurants in Barcelona, Tempura-Ya.

We arrived at Muntaner 153 (between Corsega and Rosselló) for sushi dinner around opening time 20:30 when we arrived at our table there were already three tables occupied and by nine the restaurant was completely packed. The decor was stylish Japanese and gave a nice tranquil atmosphere, I thought about the samurai sword on the wall just in case service was not satisfactory. But they probably know aikido so I wouldn’t stand a chance. The service was impeccably friendly with the waiters working professionally together, coordinated even in the way they moved around, and in bringing the food and clearing the table; speaking Japanese amongst themselves even made it feel like I was in Nippon, the land of the rising sun.

The food was definitely of very high quality. The texture of the tuna and the first taste on the tongue followed by the pure and delicate natural flavor made me think of a summer breeze by the ocean. Next to the tuna nigiri’s the salmon enhanced the thought of summer ocean breeze with the fine structure and natural unspoiled flavor. The Californian maki’s were available in mini’s and were absolutely delicious. The rice was at the right temperature and the flavor left no doubt that it was very good quality prepared in just the right way.

What I understood from chefs around the world is that no matter how good the chef is, he can not make a good meal out of a bad product. He has to have quality products to work with and the knowledge and techniques to prepare them.

Among the customers there were Japanese people as well, everything about the place fitted the picture of a quality restaurant, a good recommendation from our friend, and definitely worth spreading the word about one of the best Sushi restaurants in Barcelona; Tempura-Ya.
